One step closer to the Title…

The British Superbike Championship made it's annual trip abroad this past weekend to the “Cathedral of Speed” for the penultimate round of the Series. Leon Haslam knew he had to retain or increase his lead in the standings to give him the best chance of Title success at the final round in two weeks time, and that he did!

The racing was highly competitive, with battles for the win including multiple machines in both races. Haslam and his JG Speedfit Kawasaki stormed to a fantastic win in race one and backed that success up with another strong podium finish in race two. Main title rivals Shakey Byrne and Josh Brookes finished behind Leon meaning he extended his Championship lead to 32 points.

With no Superstock races in Assen, it was up to Gearlink Kawasaki to represent Team Green in the Supersport class. A very on form Ben Currie rode a calculated race in terrible conditions to take his Third win in a row, backed up by team mate Andrew Irwin how followed him home in Second. An unfortunate crash in race two for Currie meant that Irwin was the sole Gearlink rider on track and he again managed a fine Second place. Irwin and Currie now sit Second and Third in the Title chase respectively with one round to go.

Senior Racing Co-ordinator for Kawasaki UK, Ross Burridge said “It's been another great weekend for Team Green! We are all so desperate for Leon to take his first British Championship and he has done himself a huge favour this weekend notching up another victory. It would be a fairy-tale to win both the British and World Superbike Championships in the same year, and after Jonathan Rea's amazing achievement this weekend we are well on course to do so. I just want to get to Brands Hatch as quickly as possible now!”

The final round of the British Superbike Championship takes place at Brands Hatch on October 13-15
