Wembley
final sees Apico LPE Kawasaki achieve their goal
Already buoyed by achieving the rider's
Championship win at the penultimate round of the UK Garmin Arenacross series,
the LPE Kawasaki team fought hard at the Wembley Arena final scoring enough
points to also secure the team title.
With top individual honours assured,
Frenchman, Fabien Izoird joined team mate Loic Rombaut across a series of
qualifiers and then the final races gaining enough points to deliver a second
honour to the Steve James managed team.
Paying back the team for their hard work and
dedication, Izoird did not have to race at Wembley but his attendance was never
in doubt despite having to leave straight after the final to drive to France
for a Sunday outdoor race.
Aspiring Kawasaki riders also featured highly
on the night and, in front of a capacity crowd, KX pilots took two of the three
podium places in the Rookie class with Ben Harrison second and Passion Racing's
rider, Charlie Putnam, third.
In the Big Wheel 85cc class, Team Green
Kawasaki rider, Dylan Woodcock, defied the odds and rode despite only having a
cast taken off his broken wrist just three days previously and almost took the
win!
After a penultimate lap tussle with a
backmarker, the pain began to tell and the plucky rider had to settle for
third. Another podium finish for the
talented Team Green pilot in circumstances that would have deterred many an
adult professional motocrosser.
In the small wheel 85cc class, MJW Kawasaki
rider Preston Williams led all but one lap finishing a fine second, and in so
doing, achieved third overall in the Championship – illustrations, if they were
needed, of the competitiveness of the recently re-launched KX85.
Trackside for practice and the entire event, Kawasaki's UK Racing
Coordinator, Ross Burridge, commented:
"Wembley was a fantastic conclusion to a great series, and to have the Pro Class title come to Kawasaki was the icing on the cake. Steve James and his team have done a fantastic job and deserve their Championship win. To have Kawasaki prominently featured on the other class podiums on the night was also excellent. Our mission now must be to replicate this success in outdoor motocross.”
