Sun, wins and rain!

It was an eventful weekend to say the least at round two of the ACU British Youth Nationals. After an impressive thunder and lightening storm through most of Friday night the Culham moto park circuit was in a sorry state, as was the Team Green awning which snapped and collapsed under the pressure of so much rain!

After a delay the racing finally got under way with the decision that two blocks of racing would be knocked off the schedule. It was definitely a mixed bag for Team Green over the weekend. Dylan Woodcock dominated the big wheel class winning four out of the five motos and doing it in some style coming from way down the field on each occasion to take the overall win. Jed Etchells was again super consistent and improved throughout the weekend to bring his KX85 home in sixth and sits fifth in the championship. In the small wheel class Lewis Hall had a weekend to forget with a severely upset stomach and a technical issue thrown in for good measure.

“I think it's far to say we've had a bit of everything this weekend. It didn't start off well with the awning snapping and ripping off the side of the team truck, so from then on I was hoping it was only going to get better! It did with the lads performance and effort. Yet again they all pushed and gave 100% under difficult conditions. I think Dylan was a the stand out rider of the weekend, not for the team as such but for everyone there watching. He was awesome. He made it hard work for himself with poor starts so we'll look at that but still, to win from where he was on the opening laps of all the motos was brilliant…and exciting. He showed maturity and that his fitness is improving all the time. He probably would've won all five if he hadn't of been hit by another rider when he slid off in race three, but even then his charge to third was probably his best ride of the weekend. I was really pleased with Jed and for him this weekend. He's so smooth and consistent but needs a little more aggression and fight, this weekend, especially on day two he showed that and was fighting for podium places. He now needs to keep that momentum going and build that self belief. Lewis had a weekend to forget. He really wasn't very well with an upset stomach and not his usual self but he's such a little trooper he toughed it out. It went wrong straight away, after getting second in qualifying he then had an issue with his throttle on the sighting lap and missed the start of the race but went out and still scored points even though he was a lap down. In the second moto he was coming through the pack well after a bad start but his stomach was so bad he had to pull out and rush back to the truck to use the toilet! He was sick overnight and between races on Sunday so to even be out there racing showed his commitment, to get a third in one moto was awesome. He was chasing down another third in the last moto but crashed making the move on Kacey Hird and then just couldn't start his bike. We've got a bit of break now and we'll use that to work on our weak points and be ready for the MX nationals at Foxhill.”

Dylan Woodcock - #60 Big Wheeled KX85

“It's been a good weekend for me. I showed people how good my bike is I also moved up from 9th to 3rd in the championship. At round one I had a DNF with that broken spark plug which lost me a load of points, now I'm right back in this championship and hopefully I've earned another points to be invited to the World championships in Belgium. I've got to get back to better starts so I don't have to work so hard through the field, although it was a lot of fun coming through the pack I don't want to be doing it at every race. In the last two races Keenan Hird was a long way in front when I got into second and I had to push so hard to catch him so to do that was pretty cool.”

Jed Etchells - #7 Big Wheeled KX85

“It got better as it went on. I didn't feel good on Saturday, I had a headache all day and just couldn't get in to it. Sunday I felt better and rode much harder and it was probably the best I've ridden all year. I know I've got to be a bit more aggressive and push a little harder at the start of the races. Jeff and the team have been encouraging me to do that and I know they're right so I'm now really trying to do that and I'm going to starting training on that more so I can get on that podium soon.”

Lewis Hall - #9 Small Wheeled KX85

“I'm not feeling very well and I'm not happy about my results this weekend because I've lost a lot of points. I tried as hard as I could but I've been really ill and not had a lot of luck. Hopefully next time I'll be okay and have more luck, I really hope this is my only bad luck weekend this year. My bike was really good and every time I ride it we're getting the suspension better so I'm looking forward to the next race. I need to get better starts though because I'm always having to charge through the pack.”
